On football Saturdays, Ben Hill Griffin Stadium at Florida Field is the place to be. Also known as "the Swamp" where "only Gators come out alive," the stadium is home to the SEC powerhouse University of Florida Gator Football Team. the original football stadium, the lower half of the current stadium, was constructed in 1930. the completion of the South End Zone project in August of 1982 raised the seating capacity to over 72,000. the addition of the North End Zone in 1991 brought the capacity over 84,000 seats.

In August of 2003, the fifth renovation in the history of the stadium was completed and increased capacity to 88,548. the entire project cost $50 million and was built with no state money. the project made Florida Field the largest stadium in the state of Florida and one of the largest and loudest anywhere in the country. Florida's Stephen C. O'Connell Center

has a reputation around the country - enthusiastic and friendly if you're a Gator noisy, deafening and menacing if you're the opposition. Florida's student section, dubbed the "Rowdy Reptiles", has made the O'Connell Center one of the toughest places to play in the nation. In fact, ESPN the Magazine dubbed it the "Scariest Place to Play in the Country" in its 1999-00 college basketball preseason issue. the NCAA also selected the O'Dome as one of three arenas in the country featured through a virtual tour on its official website during the 2000 season.

In recent years, a trip to the O'Connell Center hasn't meant a pleasant and fun-filled stay in sunny Florida for visiting clubs. UF is 81-11 (.880) in the O'Connell Center during the last siz seasons, with an average margin of victory of 23.4 ppg during that stretch.
